How I got here

About 2 decades ago, I started out in technology editing on an Amiga Video Toaster and using light-motion 3D and Macromedia Director for video animations. I’m sure not many people know what any of that is, but it was cutting edge for that time, I promise.

I was a film major in college only after a meandering path from Jazz guitar to acting. I was working in the film medium and one day when I cut my finger on the film splicer for the last time editing 16mm Black and White film, it seemed overnight I entered into the computer age of non-linear editing on the Media 100. It was ground-breaking and the forefather to Adobe Premier and Logic Studio, two products I use today.

From School I worked in the Film/Commercial industry for 5 years, played / wrote music for a few touring bands for 10 years and fell into UX by way of graphic design and everyones favorite term “Web Master”.

I got really lucky early on to have be recognized by someone in innovation and ended up working on some really great products that became iconic before apps, mobile phones, tablets. It was called the “Connected Home Tablet”. A product that got killed because of the iPad. Which is a better product for better or for worse.

MINDBODY

UX Design Manager Mobile Team (Apr 15 - Nov 19)

  • Drive and lead the process of redesigning the B2C native mobile app for both Android and iOS platforms

  • Manage a team of designers from 3 up to 11 at any given time during my 4 years at MINDBODY

  • Lead and guide designer(s) and teams in brainstorming activities

  • Create and drove “environmentally conscious” group called the “Green Action Team” initiative to bring compost onsite

  • Awarded the “Environmentally Conscious” Employee of the month honor

  • Work across all books of business products at MINDBODY including B2B, B2C, B2B2C

  • Collaborate with peer managers UX, Product, Engineering partners on process improvements in SCRUM

  • Work closely with peer UX managers on team improvements, collaborative events, new tools, morale lifting

  • Responsible for creating the 9 box evals, 360 surveys and feedback solution for mid-year and annual reviews


Groupon

UX DESIGN LEAD - Channels Goods | Getaways app (Jan ‘13 - Feb ‘15)

  • Create user experience solutions on the web for the business of Groupon Goods channel

  • Strategize new features for channel Goods Web & Mobile apps

  • Ideate, create and deliver design recommendations / solutions for the business of Goods & Getaways

  • Iterate, design updates to internal tools for both channels


napster app

UX DESIGN LEAD - iOS app | Integrations (July ‘11 - Oct ‘13)

  • Lead new mobile app experience design for iPad and iOS devices for top streaming music service, moving the old web online client into the mobile realm - over 100,000 users

  • Created a cross-platform UX utilizing the new (at the time) unified layout for iOS / iPad in order to make for an easier implementation and scalable solution.

  • Worked closely with development on to build a shared UI for mobile devices using the framework called split view

  • Worked with the Android team to create a consistent experience cross-platform,

  • Ongoing checkins with internal partners including data science, development, product owner(s) for both platforms to ensure consistency and transparency cross-team

  • Work closely with business to create the best up-sell experience Continue to champion user experience as the primary driver for inspiring users in the on demand music space


T-Mobile | Deutsche telEkom

UX DESIGN LEAD - The Creation Center | UX Group (Mar ‘09 - Jun ‘11)

  • I came to T-Mobile’s Innovation group to join the ‘Connected Home Tablet’ team during the ‘pre-iPad’ era (in device years) in an effort to bring hearts and minds of families in a richer multimedia experience where the old concept of ‘Home Phone’ meets the

  • New concept of ‘Central Family Communication Device’

  • In addition I’ve delivered or been part of best in class teams behind T-Mobile products / services including the award-winning Sidekick I, II

  • Design of MyTouch Franchise camera feature (PCWorld - “Best Phone Camera Ever”), Wi-Fi Calling Service (Reducing Churn with Wi-Fi)

  • Service for ICS Android devices, Sidekick and many others.


MICROSOFT

UX Designer - Office Online, WMP 11 (pre ‘05)

  • Designed user templates for the Office 12 release and Office Online RTW.

  • Launched approximately 50 variations of customizable designs to enhance the customer experience.

  • Designed and produced assets for Windows Media Player 11 RTW (release to web) including full-page product design and

  • mini-sites for user guides.

  • Worked with developers on the wireframes and pre-production of the Windows Media Player 11 website.
